With three months having passed since Abelardo de la Espriella took office, it is important to create a space for reflection and monitoring of his initial decisions and policies, particularly in relation to the quality of democracy, economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, human rights and peace-building.
This early assessment will enable us to identify:
- key indicators regarding the strengthening or weakening of institutions, public participation, safeguards for communities and social organisations, the protection of land defenders, and the State’s fulfilment of its obligations, amongst others
- recommendations for the international community (institutional bodies and civil society) to seek improvements in the comprehensive fulfilment of human and environmental rights, as well as peace-building.
Our speakers are:
- Francisco Henao Bohorquez, Director of the “Corporación Jurídica Yira Castro” and Spokesperson for the “Colombian Platform for Human Rights, Democracy and Development”
- Carolina Maya, Co-Director of the “Corporación para la defensa y promoción de los derechos Reiniciar” and Spokesperson for the “Alliance of Social and Related Organisations for International Cooperation for Peace and Democracy in Colombia”
- Olga Silva, Director of “Humanidad Vigente Corporación Jurídica” and Spokesperson for the “Colombia-Europe-United States Coordination”
