On 24 October 2026, Brussels will host the public conference “Défendre les droits, c’est défendre la paix” (Defending Rights Means Defending Peace), bringing together Colombian women human rights defenders to raise awareness of the risks faced by those protecting life, land and dignity, and to strengthen international solidarity with Colombian civil society.

In a context marked by ongoing armed conflict, threats against human rights defenders and persistent challenges to building lasting peace in Colombia, it is essential to listen to those working every day in their communities to defend human rights, promote justice and protect vulnerable populations.
The conference will provide an opportunity to hear first-hand about the experiences, challenges and proposals of Colombian organisations supporting communities affected by violence and defending human rights across the country. It will also offer a space to reflect on the importance of international support for human rights defenders and their essential role in peacebuilding.
Speakers:
- Liliana Castillo Hernández, Executive Director of Asociación MINGA.
- Astrid Torres Ramírez, Coordinator of Programa Somos Defensores.
- Carolina Moreno Quirós, Member of the Assembly of Corporación Jurídica Libertad.
The discussion will be moderated by Ines Kalai, from Amnesty International.
The event will be held in French and is organised with the participation of Amnesty International, Buen Vivir, OIDHACO and the Comité Daniel Gillard.
