Internal displacement and lands
Colombia is one of the countries with the highest population of internally displaced persons in the world, with between 3.3 and 5.5 million displaced people, including almost 260,000 newly displaced people in 2011. Between 2007 and March 2010, 1,499 displaced people were murdered. The magnitude of the crisis of dispossession of land in Colombia has reached between 6.8 and 10 million hectares. The illegal armed actors in the internal conflict - guerrillas and paramilitaries - have taken over land areas by establishing their political and economic influence, which has contributed considerably to land concentration, in turn facilitating mining activities and the implementation of megaprojects.
